Are you tired of the discomfort and embarrassment caused by missing teeth? Dental bridges may be the perfect solution for you. A dental bridge, as the name suggests, bridges the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It's a common, affordable, and time-tested treatment. The bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap — these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth — and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.

If you've lost a tooth or several teeth, the resulting gap can lead to several problems. For starters, the remaining teeth can shift, leading to a bad bite. Missing teeth can also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. A dental bridge helps prevent these issues by filling the gap with a false tooth. In addition, dental bridges can restore your smile and the ability to properly chew and speak, maintain the shape of your face, and distribute the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth.
A well-maintained dental bridge can last up to 15 years or even longer!

Missing teeth can take a toll on your confidence, making you self-conscious about your smile. Dental bridges fill these gaps, restoring your smile to its former glory. With a full set of teeth, you can smile, laugh, and speak in public without feeling self-conscious.
Missing teeth can make it difficult to chew food properly and speak clearly. With a dental bridge, you can enjoy your favorite foods without worry and speak without struggling to pronounce certain words. This can significantly improve your quality of life.
By filling the gap left by missing teeth, a dental bridge can help maintain the alignment of your remaining teeth and prevent them from shifting out of place. This is important because misaligned teeth can lead to issues such as a bad bite, gum disease, and TMJ disorders.
During your first visit, Dr. Leah Divito will examine your teeth to determine if a dental bridge is the best option for you. If it is, the teeth on either side of the gap will be prepared. Preparation involves recontouring these teeth by removing a portion of enamel to allow room for a crown to be placed over them.
Next, impressions of your teeth are made, which will serve as a model from which the bridge, pontic, and crowns will be made by a dental lab. Dr. Divito will make a temporary bridge for you to wear to protect the exposed teeth and gums while your bridge is being made.
On your next visit, the temporary bridge will be removed and the new porcelain or metal bridge will be checked and adjusted, as necessary, to achieve a proper fit. Multiple visits may be required to check the fit of the metal framework and bite. This is dependent on each individual's case.
